Aluminum container emphasizes form and function - New packages: food beverage pharmaceutical medical HBA - Brief Article

Food & Drug Packaging, July, 2003

With containers for personal care foams, performance can be just as important as appearance. When Aladdin Fragrances, a division of The Northern Group, decided to add a shaving gel-based foam to its Pierre Cardin Grooming Essentials line, the company went with CCL Container's upscale aluminum packaging and its ABS[TM] delivery system.

ABS is CCL's proprietary barrier system that uses a hermetically sealed, multilayered laminate pouch to separate product from pressurizing agent. The ABS bag-in-can system keeps hydrocarbon propellant from seeping into the product, ensuring product purity.

According to John Hammer, Northern Group's director of materials management, the bag-in-can system offers other benefits. "The gel is thick, so we needed the ABS system to ensure consistent delivery of the product," Hammer explains.

The Grooming Essentials shaving gel can has a silver, brushed aluminum finish, which provides a neutral backdrop for signature package decorations that coordinate with the rest of the Pierre Cardin line. The shaving gel, which comes in a regular 7-ounce size and a 1.5-ounce trial size, adds another dimension to the popular men's skincare line. Grooming Essentials is currently sold in Wal-Mart stores and through drug chains like Eckerd and Duane Reade.
