Food & Drug Packaging, July, 2004 by Lisa McTigue Pierce
Each generation has its unique characteristics. My immigrant grandparents, for example, brought with them a strong work ethic. Their sweat and labor helped make a better life for their children and grandchildren.
Our parents proved that the American dream could be achieved with a little bit of luck and lots of work. Along the way, we've learned to expect rewards for being smart and working hard. We measure business success in satisfaction and in dollars.
Today, the people who deserve praise are the packaging professionals working for the companies in our Top 200 Packagers lists. The proof is in the numbers, with sales that reflect a commitment and drive for excellence.

We, too, strive for excellence in our work. I'm proud to say that our Special Report on Unit-Dose Packaging, which was published in May 2003, has won an Editorial Excellence award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). Tina Grady, Chicago Chapter President (at left), presented me with the Silver Award in the Special Section category last month.
I'm grateful that the effort we put into that project was recognized, but I don't think about winning awards when I'm writing. My job is rewarding in itself. I relish a task well done, knowing I've done my best in the time available. Many of you may feel the same way, but it's always nice to get a pat on the back to show appreciate for your efforts.
So, with a hearty handshake and a tipped hat, we congratulate the Top 200 Packagers on their achievements. Well done!
