Georgia-Pacific slashes gypsum wallboard production - Brief Article

Home Channel News, July 2, 2001

More than 500 employees will be affected by Georgia-Pacific's decision to cut production of gypsum wallboard, the company's latest move in an ongoing effort to reduce its building-materials commitment to re-position itself as a consumer products-oriented company.

Georgia Pacific plans to cut back its wallboard production by approximately 45 percent. It will close plants in Savannah, Ga.; Long Beach, Calif.; and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada as well as suspend indefinitely wallboard production at its facilities in Acme, Texas; Sigurd, Utah, and Blue Rapids, Kan.
