Weyerhaeuser, Federal Way, Wash., warned that third-quarter earnings might not meet expectations. But the forest products giant got a whiff of victory in its battle to take over rival Willamette Industries. Richard Clark, a major shareholder in Willamette, has indicated a willingness to tender his 3.2 million shares if the price were raised to $55 a share. (10/2)
