Workforce considerations force CertainTeed to close window plant
Home Channel News, Nov 6, 2000
The Valley Forge, Pa.-based building products supplier said it would stop production at its window fabrication facility in Wixom, Mich., and would close the plant by mid- December. Larry Patterson, the company's vp-window operations, said the decision to dose Wixom was made "for economic and customer service reasons.
Our costs have continued to escalate and we have been unable to secure and retain an effective workforce," which in turn has affected the plant's on-time delivery. CertainTeed bought the plant in 1996, supplying customers in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. Ninety employees are affected by the closing.
