Silicon sealants, new adhesive
Home Channel News, Nov 22, 1999
At the Remodelers Show in Philadelphia earlier this month, Geocel, the Elkhart, Ind.-based caulks, sealants and adhesives supplier, showcased two new high-performance silicone sealants and an adhesive that has been out for about a year.
Geocel's high-performance Neutral Cure Silicone Sealant 8150 and Acetoxy Cure Silicone Sealant 8125 were both introduced earlier this summer and are available only through distributors, according to marketing services manager John Bencsics. He added that for a new product launch, sales results have been strong, though he declined to give specific figures. The 8150 Sealant is a one-component sealant that demonstrates adhesion to both porous and non-porous surfaces. It provides joint movement capability and "weatherabiity." It is designed for use for a variety of construction and industrial applications. The 8125 Sealant is one-component silicon sealant and is designed to stick to nonporous surfaces. The 8150 Sealant is available in 13 colors and the 8125 in eight colors.
Speed Grip, the year-old product, is a water clean-up adhesive. It differs from other adhesives, say company officials, because it works on problem substrates like foam board, marble and mirrors. It can also be applied to panels, sheathing, windows and doors, siding, wood flooring, molding and other building materials. Speed Grip is available at hardware stores, lumberyards and building material supply stores. Geocel is not suggesting a retail price. Bencsics also pointed out that Speed Grip is 99 percent free of volatile organic compound (VOG), which makes it an environmently friendly product.
