Retail giants covet China market

Obi, the Germany-based franchiser, plans to open 30 new stores in Shanghai, China, over the next four years. U.S.-based Wal-Mart, the world's top retailer, plans to open eight store in China next year. French retailer Carrefour, which holds the number two spot and now operates 26 stores in 14 Chinese cities, may open 10 more in Shanghai.
And German retailer Metro AG, the world's third-largest retailer, has said it will expand its presence in China by opening 10 new stores a year. The company now has eight shops in Shanghai, Fuzhou, and Qingdao, and other cities.
