Home Channel News, Dec 17, 2001

The number of U.S. households actively shopping for a new home in November 2001 decreased one percentage point from the previous month, while the number of household owners who said they "may" purchase a new home in the coming 12 months increased one percent from October, according to a monthly national survey conducted by Leo J. Shapiro and Associates in Chicago.

According to the poll, 9 percent of U.S. households were actively shopping for a home in November, while 17 percent said they "may buy in the coming year." In addition, 37 percent of respondents said that they think the cost of a new home will be higher in six months than it is now. That is 24 percentage points lower than a year ago. The study has been done continuously since 1975 and is based on 5,400 interviews annually.
