Later this year, in three Midwestern markets, Sears will remerchandise its department stores by reducing its home improvement selection to make room for more home decor products. Prudential Securities analyst Wayne Hood told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Sears plans to carry smaller paint, plumbing and lighting assortments to make way for floor coverings, window treatments and linens.
Hood said other planned changes include a beefed-up tool department, redesigned racks and signs and centralized checkouts. Sears will also test shopping carts in the stores.
