B&D's pres exits

Home Channel News, May 3, 1999

Joe Galli resigned suddenly as president of Towson, Md.'s based Black & Decker's $3 billion worldwide power tools and accessories division. His position is filled by Paul McBride, 43, who joins B&D from General Electric, where he spent 21 years and most recently served as president of its global silicone products business.

The 39-year-old Galli could not be reached for comment. He joined B&D in 1983, became its vp-marketing in 1990, and president of its U.S. power tool group in 1993. He is known for guiding the 1992 introduction of the DeWalt Industrial Tool division and was instrumental in developing B&D's accessories program.

B&D said Galli left the company to "advanc[e] his management career to a higher level."

In addition, B&D made several other management moves. James Roberts was promoted to president of U.S. accessories, Edward Scanlon to president of the Home Depot division, and John Schiech to president of DeWalt professional power tools for North America.
