Blue Rhino makes acquisitions, wins packaging award

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based provider of propane grill cylinder exchanges acquired International Propane Products and Uniflame, two import and design companies. Blue Rhino has also agreed to acquire 350 cylinder-exchange locations in the Midwest and Northeast from two national propane companies. In other company news, Blue Rhino's RhinoTuft fuel check gauge won the 1999 President's Award from the Flexible Packaging Association.
The award recognizes packaging that is innovative, provides product protection, enhances consumer convenience and improves printing design. The gauge, featured on Blue Rhino's propane cylinders, uses heat-sensitive ink to indicate when the cylinder is low on fuel.
