Asian Economic News, April 5, 1999
TOKYO, March 31 Kyodo Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc.'s Singapore-based Japan Entertainment Television (JET) will reduce operations and supply cable television programs only to Taiwan from July, sources at the major broadcasting company said Wednesday. Earnings from the supply of cable TV programs have dropped due to the Asian economic crisis, the sources said, adding that JET will continue serving Taiwan, where Japanese programs are in strong demand.
Established by TBS, Sumitomo Corp. and other companies, JET began supplying Japanese programs to cable TV stations in Thailand, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan in April 1997.
