SEOUL, June 3 Kyodo

Korean stocks rose for the eighth day in a row amid heavy volatile swings, reports Yonhap.

The benchmark index neared 790 mark during the day, buoyed by the news of inter-Korean talks, but later tumbled on renewed rumors over possible devaluation of China's currency. KOSPI closed the day at 778.21, up 3.21 points. Trade volume totaled 233 million on turnover of 3 trillion won.

Decliners led advancers 463 to 355 with 67 others remaining unchanged. Land transportation, apparel, steel, construction, and chemical issues were among risers while financial indices fell.
