A number of people were hurt, at least four seriously, when some 10,000 aspiring game-show participants stampeded in an attempt to enter a television station compound in suburban Quezon city, a Manila newspaper reported Thursday.
The crowd was vying Wednesday for 100 places in an anniversary contest held by the ABS-CBN network's "Pera o Bayong" (Cash or Basket) instant cash TV game show, in which a passenger jeepney and a tricycle will be given away, the daily Today said.
The crowd burst inside the ABS-CBN compound as soon as its gates opened at 7 a.m., the report said.
An undetermined number of people sustained bruises and other minor injuries and four women were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.
The show's organizers said they will cover the medical expenses of those requiring treatment, according to the report.
