Japan's Ajinomoto Co. opened a plant for the manufacture of amino acids for medicine in Shanghai on Thursday in the hope of making it a plant not only for the Chinese market but also for exports.
The plant, run by a joint venture 60% owned by Ajinomoto and the remainder by local partners, will produce 10 types of amino acids for use in medical products such as drops at an annual rate of 800 tons for the first year, Ajinomoto President Kunio Egashira told a press conference.
"We would like to make this plant a base targeting not only the Chinese market but also the international market by making high-quality products with the latest technology," Egashira said.
Ajinomoto is the world's largest manufacturer of amino acids for medicine with a global market share of some 60%.
