Sankyo Seiki to set up factory in Philippines

TOKYO, Nov. 8 Kyodo

Electric machinery manufacturer Sankyo Seiki Mfg. Co. said Wednesday it will set up a factory in the Philippines to make fluid dynamic bearing motors used for computer hard disk drives.

A wholly owned subsidiary, Sankyo Seiki (Philippines) Mfg. Corp., established in June this year, will start construction of the factory in late November at a cost of around 3.6 billion yen.

The factory will start turning out around 2.4 million motors a month from the fall of 2001. Staff will total 1,000 in the initial year, the company said.
