Luxembourg proposes aviation agreement with Japan

SEOUL, Oct. 20 Kyodo

Luxembourg on Friday proposed the establishment of an aviation agreement with Japan in a meeting in Seoul between the two countries' prime ministers, a Japanese Foreign Ministry official said.

Luxembourg's Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker made the proposal to Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori, who said he will relay the request to the Transport Ministry so it can determine its feasibility, the official said.

The Japanese premier added the issue will also be taken up at a meeting of aviation experts from Japan and Luxembourg, scheduled to take place in November.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Asia-Europe Meeting.

Currently, cargo flights from Luxembourg fly into Japan with special government permits, but the country is hoping to secure flight arrangements to Japan, the official said.

Luxembourg is the only country among the 15 European Union member countries that does not have an aviation accord with Japan.
