A Singapore man who was kidnapped managed to get to church in time for his wedding after his family paid a ransom of S$1.22 million (US$692,000), a local daily reported Monday.

Tay Teng Joo, 33, was kidnapped outside his bungalow in a residential district on Friday morning, The Straits Times said.

He was bundled into a van, blindfolded and ordered to call his family to tell them that he would be released for S$4 million.

He was freed about seven hours later after his family paid part of the sum demanded.

''Though shaken, he made it to his church wedding and banquet'' at a five-star hotel in Singapore on Saturday, the daily said.

His father, Tay Choon Hye, is chairman of the family-run SUTL Group of regional marketing and trading companies.
