Japan and Nepal signed and exchanged notes Friday on a grant of 4.23 billion yen to the mountain kingdom for building a highway and storage facilities for iodized salt, the Finance Ministry said.
Out of the money, 3.32 billion yen will be used for construction of a section of the Banepa-Sindhuli Highway planned as the main corridor between Nepalese capital city Kathmandu and the eastern districts of the country.
The balance will be used for construction of storage facilities for 13,000 tons of iodized salt in four different Nepalese cities, and building a laboratory for testing iodine content in the salt.
Nepalese Finance Secretary Bimal Prasad Koirala and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Mitsuaki Kojima signed the notes, the ministry added.
