TOKYO, June 6 Kyodo

The Japanese Foreign Ministry issued an overseas travel warning late Tuesday, urging Japanese travelers to put off travel plans to Nepal, which has been torn by civil strife following a massacre at the royal palace last Friday.

The Foreign Ministry issued a second-ranked travel warning on Nepal, meaning that Japanese travelers should put off visits to the country for sightseeing purposes. The Himalayan kingdom is a popular destination for Japanese travelers.

The Nepalese government has imposed a curfew in Kathmandu in a bid to curb street violence that has struck the Nepalese capital since King Birendra and nine members of his family were shot to death inside the royal palace on Friday.
