Two people were injured in a collision between a Japanese gravel-carrying vessel and a North Korea-registered ship Thursday morning in the Sea of Genkai off Fukuoka Prefecture, the Japan Coast Guard said.
The two of 15 crew aboard the 498-ton Nam San U Jong from North Korea suffered head and other injuries when their ship collided with the 127-ton Kinei Maru No. 38, with six crew aboard, about 6 kilometers south of the southwestern Japan prefecture's village of Oshima around 10:55 a.m., the coast guard said.
The coast guard is investigating the incident after receiving a report on the collision from Kinei Maru, which is from Nagasaki Prefecture.
The coast guard said that the North Korean vessel was carrying about 20 used cars and headed for Nampo, south of Pyongyang from a port in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
