Bangladesh to send mission to India over border conflict

Asian Economic News, May 7, 2001

DHAKA, May 3 Kyodo

Bangladesh will send a government mission to India to discuss their border conflict, which led to the death of 17 Indian and three Bangladesh soldiers in two days of fighting last month, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdus Samad Azad said Wednesday.

Azad said the Bangladesh government has yet to decide when the mission would be traveling to India.

India, which invited Bangladesh to dispatch a mission to New Delhi, set May 22-25 for the trip, but Azad ruled out the Indian-set schedule.

''We have accepted the invitation and on urgent basis we will finalize everything and send the team,'' he said.
