Pakistan on Monday airlifted $168,000 worth of supplies of food, medicine and other relief goods to Sri Lanka for the victims of Sunday's massive tsunami, a government official said.
''This is the first step (in Pakistan's relief effort),'' Prime Minister Shakaut Aziz said after dispatching a Pakistani Air Force C-130 aircraft to ferry the relief goods.
Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga has called for help from the international community in dealing with the aftermath of the tsunami, which is feared to have killed 6,000 people in Sri Lanka.
