The human death toll from bird flu in Vietnam has risen to 14 with another death confirmed, the Associated Press (AP) reported Monday.

The AP quoted a doctor as saying a 27-year-old man from southern Binh Phuoc Province died Monday at the Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City.

Test results also discovered the H5N1 bird flu strain in a 23-year-old man from the Koho ethnic minority group in Lam Dong Province, central Vietnam, the doctor reportedly said.

The man was hospitalized in stable condition, the AP quoted the doctor as saying.

In Vietnam, 19 confirmed human cases of avian flu have been confirmed. Of the patients, 14 have died, three are hospitalized and two have recovered, the report said.

Avian influenza has spread in wider areas in Asia. Thailand has also reported five human deaths from the disease.
