MANILA, Jan. 23 Kyodo
Philippine authorities on Friday banned the entry of poultry products from all Asian countries due to the outbreak of bird flu in the region.
Jose Molina, chief of the Bureau of Animal Industry, issued an advisory to travelers coming from Asian countries ''not to bring in any live poultry and any product of poultry origin'' into the Philippines ''to avoid infecting the local supply.''
The bureau also said travelers to any Asian country are discouraged from visiting any poultry or bird farms ''to avoid bringing the virus to the Philippines.''
The Philippine government has already banned the importation of chickens from Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand amid the spread of the virus in the four countries.
The bureau said the Philippines does not import poultry products from any Asian country.
