Hong Kong's jobless rate dropped 0.1 percentage point to 6.4 percent in the November-January period, compared with October-December, marking the lowest rate in three years, Financial Secretary Henry Tang said Monday.

The underemployment rate remained at 3.1 percent in the two periods, Tang said.

Improvement in the job market was seen in the manufacturing, telecommunications, real estate and cleaning, he said.

The city's unemployment rate has been declining gradually since it hit a historical high 8.7 percent recorded in the May-July period in 2003 following the SARS outbreak.
