The U.S. Defense Department said Tuesday it has reached an agreement to sell 14 upgraded Patriot missile launch systems to South Korea. The Pentagon said the deal is part of its 4.2 billion dollar defense package with South Korea. "This proposed sale will enhance their defensive capability against hostile neighbors, lessening the burden on the United States," the Defense Department said in a statement. The latest version of the Patriot, called PAC-3, is in the final phase of development. It will have the capability to hit attacking aircraft and shorter-range ballistic missiles, according to the Pentagon.
