WASHINGTON, May 7 Kyodo

The audio statement attributed to al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden offering rewards for killing top U.S. and U.N. officials as well as citizens of Japan, Italy and other countries currently in Iraq is believed to be authentic, a CIA official said Friday.

The statement, which appeared on an Islamic website Thursday, said, ''We in al-Qaida organization will guarantee 10,000 grams of gold to whoever kills the occupier Bremer, or the American chief commander or his deputy'' in Iraq.

The statement promised the same reward for killing U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan or his special envoy to Iraq Lakhdar Brahimi and accused the United Nations of being a tool of Zionists and the United States.
