U.S. negotiator on N. Korea to visit China again next week
Asian Political News, Nov 27, 2006
WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 Kyodo
Christopher Hill, the top U.S. negotiator on North Korea, will leave Washington for China on Sunday to do the spadework for the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program, a State Department spokesman said Wednesday.
The U.S. assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs returned to Washington on Tuesday after holding talks with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei in Beijing.
During the upcoming visit to China, Hill is likely to resume talks with Wu and other Chinese officials in a bid to thrash out details on ways to have the North abandon its nuclear weapons and program.
The six-party talks, stalled since last November, are expected to resume in the near future.
State Department spokesman Tom Casey said, ''While he is back there he will be continuing his consultations with the Chinese government on what we need to do to be able to launch the next round of six-party talks.''
