Course watch: GMU offers class on wedding planning

George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., has started offering the first course in the country on wedding planning, now a $160 billion industry in the United States, according to a report by ABC.

Dr. Maggie Daniels, a former wedding planner, teaches the class, which is part of the School of Recreation Health and Tourism. "It was going to have to be a tough class in order to convince the curriculum committee that this is academic work," said the assistant professor in an article by the university magazine Mason Spirit. Because Daniels could not find an appropriate textbook for the course, she and Mason alumna and Washington, D.C., wedding planner Carrie Loveless wrote the textbook Wedding Planning and Management: Consultancy for Diverse Clients.
