Yokogawa Electric's Network Computer Allows Remote Industry Operation

Yokogawa Electric <6841> has begun sales of the DUONUS network computer for industry. The product is a field server that uses Java and connects manufacturing equipment with other computers to exchange data, doing away with the need for special software and work terminals. Uses include remote operation of factory equipment, security and air conditioning as well as sewer treatment plants, highways and railroads.
DUONUS sells for 320,000 yen, and Yokogawa anticipates 2,000 sales this year, increasing to 5,000 next year.
