New Monitors: Compaq Unveils New Low Price 17-inch Monitor

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, August 24, 1998

Driving the migration to 17-inch monitors as the new office standard, Compaq Computer Corporation, the world leader in monitor shipments(1), Wednesday announced the new Compaq S700 Color Monitor. This 17-inch monitor (15.7-inch viewable), priced at $329(2), is designed specifically to meet the most critical feature and price requirements of business customers. The S700 is the first offering in the new Standard line of monitors by Compaq. The Compaq Standard line will serve as a complement to the award-winning Professional and Corporate Value lines of Compaq monitors, providing the largest screen size for the dollar, lowering the total cost of ownership and increasing productivity.

"As monitor prices have fallen, the corporate standard for monitors has moved from the 15-inch to the 17-inch monitor, increasing user productivity at an impressive price point," said Mike Winkler, Senior Vice President and Group General Manager, PC Products Group, Compaq Computer Corporation. "Compaq's Standard line of monitors has been designed to meet the customer's need for aggressive prices without sacrificing the image clarity, reliability and outstanding quality of Compaq monitors."

Setting a Corporate Standard Designed specifically for price-sensitive customers, such as small- and medium-sized businesses, the S700 offers a 17-inch (15.7-inch viewable) monitor for the price of a 15-inch monitor one year ago(3). The S700 features .24 mm horizontal dot pitch to increase clarity in fine details and improve brightness and contrast. Optimized for 1024x768 resolution at an 85 Hz refresh rate, the S700 creates crisp, flicker-free images and comfortable viewing over long periods of time. The Compaq S700 is designed to maximize viewing convenience with a six-button on-screen display to give users a quick and easy way to customize screen options and an anti-glare screen coating to help reduce eye-strain. As with all Compaq monitors, the S700 maintains stringent environmental standards, adhering to Energy Star and MPRII compliance.

Combining Compaq quality and reliability and one of the best warranties in the industry, the Compaq S700 becomes a smart business solution for price sensitive customers. The S700 is the first product in the Compaq Standard series of monitors. Additional products in this series will be announced later this year.

Lowering the Cost of Ownership All Compaq monitors are designed to incorporate Compaq's award-winning Intelligent Manageability capabilities to significantly lower the total cost of ownership. The Compaq S700 offers easy Plug and Play installation as well as Compaq's unique AssetControl feature, which allows remote tracking of the monitor's manufacturing information, serial number, current resolution and graphics control when used with a Compaq PC and Insight Manager software.

Service and Support The Compaq S700 monitor comes with a three-year limited warranty and includes on-site service during the first year(4). Customers can also upgrade the warranty to provide on-site services for the second and third years. Compaq's 48 Hour Direct Replacement program guarantees that if the Compaq S700 fails while under the 3-year parts warranty, Compaq will provide a replacement monitor to the user within 48 hours(4).
