Caere Corporation, the worldwide leader in scanner software, Thursday announced the recent election of two new members to its board of directors.
The new board members are Betsy S. Atkins and Joseph J. Francesconi. They join Robert Teresi, chairman and CEO, Caere Corp.; Robert Frankenberg, current president and CEO, Encanto Networks, Inc. and former CEO, Novell, Inc.; and James Dutton, former president, Andor America Corp., currently on the board.
"We are very pleased to announce the addition of these two directors to our board," said Robert Teresi, chairman and CEO. "Their abundant experience in executive management in the high-tech industry is sure to benefit Caere."

Betsy S. Atkins Atkins, 42, currently is board chair for Amplitude Software Corp., a private maker of applications software for the Internet and Intranet markets, and a board member for Ascend Communications Corp, a $1.5 billion provider of networking products and services. Additionally, Atkins is on the board of directors for Secure Computing, Inc., Selectica, Inc., and Silicon Valley Networks, Inc. Previously, she has sat on many boards of high-tech companies including Coronet Corp., Magic Maker, and NeTrend Corp.
Atkins graduated magna cum laude from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She also attended Oxford University and the University of Copenhagen.
Joseph J. Francesconi Francesconi, 55, has been president and CEO of Network Equipment Technologies (N.E.T.) since March 1994. Previously, he worked at Amdahl Corporation for seventeen years in various roles, finishing up as executive vice president. Prior to Amdahl, Francesconi worked for IBM for twelve years in sales and management positions.
He currently sits on N.E.T.'s board and has served on the boards of several public and private companies.
Francesconi holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
