Executive Suite: Quantum Corporation Appoints William H. Boles as Vice President of Marketing for DLTtape Systems

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, July 6, 1998

Quantum Corporation announced Tuesday that William H. Boles, 52, has been named vice president of marketing for Quantum's DLTTape product division, reporting to general manager Brodie Keast.

Effective immediately, Boles, who joins Quantum from Olympus America, will be responsible for all marketing programs for the company's DLTtape systems, which are the de facto standard among tape systems for backing up enterprise data stored on mid-range servers. DLTtape systems are integrated into products from every major computer-systems manufacturer and most leading tape-library manufacturers. Quantum's DLTtape business accounts for approximately $1 billion in annual revenue and the DLTtape products are the worldwide revenue leaders in tape drives.

Prior to Boles' assignment with Olympus as group vice president of marketing and development for the company's Digital and Imaging Systems Group, he spent 20 years at Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) in various senior-level marketing positions.

"During his years at Olympus America and HP, Bill demonstrated a tremendous ability to think strategically and to forge key deals and relationships," said Brodie Keast, Quantum vice president and general manager of the DLTtape product division. "Bill is the right person to lead our marketing efforts as storage becomes a far more strategic component of the computing environment and DLTtape systems play a far more critical role in storage solutions."

Boles, who began his career as a research and development engineer, attended Stanford University where he received a bachelor's degree in engineering and a master's degree in mechanical engineering.

Founded in 1980, Quantum Corporation (www.quantum.com) is a diversified mass storage company with leadership positions in both fixed and removable storage markets. In calendar 1997, Quantum was the highest volume global supplier of hard disk drives for personal computers and the worldwide revenue leader for all classes of tape drives. The company sells a broad range of storage products to OEM and distribution customers worldwide. Quantum's sales for the fiscal year ending March 1998 were $5.8 billion.
