New Keyboard: Logitech Introduces Space-Saving NewTouch Compact Keyboard. Comfortable New Split-Key Design Fits Keyboard Trays and Saves Desk Space; Provides Features and Performance of Standard-Size Keyboards - Product Announcement

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Nov 2, 1998

Logitech, international market leader in human interface devices designed to provide a natural, intuitive link between people and computers, has introduced NewTouch Compact keyboard -- an elegantly designed, space-saving unit that features the popular "split key" layout. The NewTouch Compact solution incorporates full-size keys, a detachable palm rest, three Windows "hot keys," Internet access and a detachable palm rest.

Available from Logitech dealers and distributors later this month at an estimated street price of $49.95, the NewTouch Compact keyboard can be easily used with any IBM compatible system. Unlike competing ergo-design keyboard products which take up significant desk real estate, the unique split-key design and layout of the NewTouch Compact keyboard enables it to fit on standard keyboard trays or any desktop. The palm rest detaches, allowing users to further reduce the keyboard footprint. Logitech Key Commander software included with the NewTouch Compact enables users to program the twelve function keys, which can be set to open favorite web sites, applications, files, folders and volumes, and other frequently performed actions. (The f-keys retain all of their standard functions, as well.) Additionally, Windows 95 "hot keys" provide instant access to the Start and contextual menus. "Many people find the split keyboard design more comfortable for typing, yet don't want to give up all the desk space that many of these keyboards require," said Jon Miller, global product manager for keyboards. "With the NewTouch Compact keyboard, they don't have to trade space for comfort. The palm rest provides users a comfortable place to relax their hands between typing sessions, and detaches for added flexibility and extra space saving. This is a no-compromise solution with responsive full-size keys, one-key access to the Internet and the performance of a larger keyboard." The NewTouch Compact keyboard plugs into an available PS/2 or AT keyboard port on any IBM PC or compatible system. Full software functionality requires Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0. A browser and service provider are required for Internet access. Founded in 1981, Logitech designs, manufactures and markets human interface devices that connect people and computers in an intuitive and natural way. Retail and OEM product offerings include pointing devices such as mice and trackballs, control devices for entertainment and professional use, keyboards, multimedia speakers and digital video cameras. Logitech is headquartered in Fremont, Calif., and maintains regional headquarters in Romanel, Switzerland, and Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. In addition, the company has manufacturing facilities in Asia and offices in major cities in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. Logitech International is a Swiss public company traded on the NASDAQ (LOGIY) and in Switzerland on the Zurich Stock Exchange under the symbols LOGN and LOGZ. FMI: www.logitech.com.
