Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Nov 23, 1998
Fujitsu Microelectronics, Inc. (FMI) Monday demonstrated its new 15-inch LCD screen, which offers the widest viewing angle and fastest response time of any product in its class.
The new 15-inch screens are constructed using a proprietary technology that dramatically enhances image quality and simplifies the manufacturing process. The resulting image is superior to that of any other 15-inch TFT-LCD in mass production today. The screens, which are designed for high-end multimedia applications and desktop monitors, are available now from select FMI sales channels.

The 15-inch diagonal screens feature an ultra-wide viewing angle of more than 160 degrees both vertically and horizontally. The panels have a high contrast ratio of 300 to one, high brightness (250 cd/m2) and an extremely fast response time of only 25 ms. The high-resolution display has a 1,024 x 768 XGA resolution with 262,144 vivid colors.
The panels utilize Fujitsu's breakthrough Multi-domain Vertical Alignment (MVA) active matrix TFT-LCD panel technology to achieve the unparalleled image quality. An 5V power supply operates the display.
The 15-inch display is appropriate for a number of applications across many different market sectors, including desktop monitors, medical instrumentation, financial transactions, industrial-process control, dynamic signage and POS applications.
The product is available in both CMOS and LVDS versions. Prototypes of the 15-inch screens were first shown in Japan in October 1997 and FMI announced the commercial availability of the new models for U.S. customers last month.
