Internet Access: New Utility Attaches a Search Engine and Other Tools to Your Web Browser's Title Bar - Product Announcement

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Oct 19, 1998

OneSeek Corp. announced Tuesday that it has released ActiveCaption a new freeware utility which attaches a search engine interface, a browser-independent bookmark organizer and other useful tools to the unused space on the leading web browsers' caption/title bars.

With ActiveCaption, users can access all the major search engines simply by entering keywords into a form on the title bar. The user can specify one of the major search engines as the default for web searches, and can also repeat the same keyword search on the other engines with a click of the mouse.

In addition, ActiveCaption allows users to directly search high quality websites in a variety of specific categories, including news, business, entertainment, sports, movie reviews, health, politics, etc. ActiveCaption also offers online comparison shopping for books, music, videos and computer hardware/software, as well as a technical search feature that makes it easy to find information of interest to webmasters, developers and IT professionals.

ActiveCaption's optional "Space Saver" mode replicates essential browser functions on the title bar. This allows the user to hide the browser's toolbars and/or location bar, making more screen space available for viewing webpages.

Also included is a set of programmable "Speed Buttons" which provide one-click access to the user's favorite websites, and a powerful browser-independent bookmark organizer.

ActiveCaption's drag and drop bookmark manager offers a number of unique capabilities, including the ability to track user/login names associated with websites, user annotations, searching within bookmarks, and alerts which can be set to remind the user to revisit the site at some point in the future. The included bookmark merge utility makes it easy for users of multiple computers to keep their bookmarks up-to-date on all their systems.

ActiveCaption is completely browser-independent and supports both Netscape Navigator/Communicator and Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows 95/98/NT. All ActiveCaption bookmarks and other settings are instantly available, regardless of the browser being used -- even if multiple browsers are run simultaneously.

ActiveCaption is available now as a free download from http://www.oneseek.com/ActiveCaption.

OneSeek Corporation is a privately-held Sunnyvale, California-based startup company which is focused on innovative web search and navigation tools.
