Hewlett-Packard Company, the leader in complete computing solutions, Monday announced a module for selected products in its award-winning line of HP ProCurve switches. The HP ProCurve Gigabit-LX module will provide the extended Gigabit Ethernet distance needed for campus backbones.

"With the new HP ProCurve Gigabit-LX module, HP gives customers the opportunity to expand the capacity of their networks," said Jan Bell, worldwide marketing manager for HP ProCurve Networking. "This announcement shows our commitment to the Gigabit Ethernet switching market."

The HP ProCurve Gigabit-LX module provides a single-port Gigabit-LX (IEEE 802.3z) connection for the HP ProCurve 8000M, 4000M and 1600M switches. The Gigabit-LX specification allows a distance of up to 5km on 9-micron single-mode fiber and up to 550 meters on 62.5um or 50um multimode fiber. The HP ProCurve Gigabit-LX module (HP J4114A) is $1,999 and is scheduled to be available Nov. 1 through HP's worldwide network of authorized computer dealers, resellers and distributors. It comes with a lifetime limited warranty for as long as the customer owns the product. About HP
