Verio Inc. (Nasdaq: VRIO), the world's largest domain-based Web-hosting company and a leading provider of comprehensive business Internet services, Wednesday announced a new class of Web-site hosting plans for businesses with advanced Web-site needs. Based on proprietary Verio technology, the Virtual Private Server hosting plans offer the power, control and flexibility of more sophisticated hosting services at a fraction of the cost.
"The new Virtual Private Server further expands our industry-leading Web-hosting position and offers businesses a greater number of options to help them maximize the success of their Web sites," said Doug Schneider, president of Verio's Web Services division. "The Virtual Private Server is the first solution of its kind to combine the robustness and flexibility of a dedicated- server environment with the economical prices of shared-server hosting."

Standard shared-server hosting represents the most common hosting platform for online businesses. It derives its name from the environment in which hundreds of Web sites share a single server's hardware and software resources. In contrast, each Virtual Private Server has its own set of software applications, and creates a secure environment that can be completely customized by the customer. Each Virtual Private Server provides many of the benefits of a dedicated server, previously the only option for companies with more advanced Web sites and greater technical requirements.
Currently, Verio is offering two Virtual Private Server plans: VPS Standard and VPS Pro. VPS Standard starts at $149.95 per month and features 200 MB of disk space. VPS Pro starts at $299.95 per month and offers 500 MB of disk space. Each VPS plan allows a company to easily set-up their own Web, FTP or mail server and comes with additional database, e-commerce and other application options like multimedia streaming.
With approximately 270,000 Web sites residing on its servers, Verio is the world's largest business Web-hosting company. Verio offers a diverse selection of shared, dedicated and co-location Web-hosting services for small and mid-sized businesses. Prices range from $24.95 per month for entry-level hosting to $3,200 per month for highly sophisticated hosting services. E-commerce services, featuring the recently launched VerioStore line, range from $34.95 per month to $399.95 per month. For more information, call 1-888-GET-VERIO or visit www.verio.com/hosting.
