* Compaq Fraud Management System Version 6 adds network support for wireline and convergent networks.
* More tools and a new head-start solution set speeds time-to-implementation, reduces risk, and aids in management.
Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ) Tuesday announced the availability of Compaq Fraud Management System, Version 6 (CFMS V6), which adds network support for wireline and convergent networks, in addition to wireless network support available in earlier versions. CFMS V6 increases network service providers' flexibility to respond to and manage new and ever-evolving types of telecommunications fraud. In support of CFMS V6, Compaq also announced a new Head Start Solution Set that is a pre-integrated offer enabling rapid deployment.

CFMS V6 will help network service providers reduce fraud related losses and departmental operating costs, provide a faster time to implementation, and provide sustained protection as business and fraud environments change. Because CFMS V6 can be used to detect fraud in multiple networks, some customers will be able to leverage their investment to increase their efficiencies in managing fraud on multiple networks from a single interface and product.
"A converging communications world is presenting new fraud challenges for network service providers," said Sultan Zia, Vice President, Communications Integration Services, Compaq Enterprise Solutions and Services Group. "To stay ahead of fraud, communications service providers need to be able to react fast with flexible systems and effectively and efficiently manage fraud across multiple networks."
Among the features CFMS V6 includes are: * New detection features targeted at the most recent trends in fraud such as subscription fraud, calling card fraud, dealer fraud, and clip-on fraud;
* More sophisticated profiling methods to improve accuracy and reduce false positives;
* More operator-defined usage categories to better align tracking with business practices;
* Multiple user definable blacklists to quickly spot suspicious call elements;
* More user-definable pattern checks on subscriber data;
* More comprehensive case management and reporting features.
CFMS V6 also features a larger library of integration software tools that reduces the time for and the risk involved with implementation. Additional features make it easier to manage and keep track of all the system's options. Finally, more parameters are user definable, allowing users to more easily tailor CFMS V6 for local practices and new situations.
To support customer implementation of CFMS V6, Compaq Services provides a new Head Start Solution Set that pre-integrates the software and includes consulting, design, and implementation services. The pre-integrated solution, based on Compaq's extensive experience in communications fraud prevention and management, greatly reduces implementation time by providing 80 percent of the required functionality, leaving the remaining 20 percent for customization.
CFMS V6 has been piloted at four companies and has recently been placed in production at WIND, in Rome, Italy.
"With Compaq's CFMS, we have found a single solution that satisfies the fraud management needs for both our wireless and wireline divisions." said Giuseppe Bonacina, Customer Operations Director at WIND. "This solution greatly simplifies our fraud management efforts. Compaq's expertise was especially helpful in implementing the system."
CFMS, first released in 1993 as Digital Fraud Management System (DFMS), is installed at dozens of network service providers on four continents. CFMS V6 software is available worldwide now through Compaq Services, on AlphaServers running Tru64 UNIX and clients running Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 98 Operating Systems. Additional North American distribution channels will be announced in the near future. Prices are custom quoted based on a customer's environment and requirements.
