CorelCity.com will be a central place on the Web for Corel customers to go for information and services. In November, Corel announced that its new Linux operating system, Corel LINUX OS, would be bundled with every computer motherboard package shipped worldwide by the PC Chips group of companies--PC Chips estimates that it will ship more than 20 million motherboards in the year 2000. Corel LINUX OS and PC Chips customers can access CorelCity.com with a single click on a desktop icon, taking them to one central place for information on Corel products and for online services, bringing even more value to their purchase.
"Our goal with CorelCity.com was to create an online destination where our users could go for any online service they needed--whether it was to store files or receive a fax, or to look up a stock quote or a movie listing," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "CorelCity.com is that one-stop destination, with links to each of Corel's Web sites and to valuable online services that our customers would have had to search for in the past."
CorelCity.com offers the following services at no charge to its online customers:
* Corel vDrive (beta version): An easy-to-use and convenient place to store files on the Internet, customers get up to 20 megabytes of free storage space, and can access their files anytime, anywhere, as long as they have a computer with an Internet connection.
* Easy Web Access: CorelCity.com provides links to all of Corel's Web sites, including www.corel.com and the community Web sites linux.corel.com, designer.com and officecommunity.com. These sites offer Corel users articles and information relating to Linux, graphic design practices and small business information, as well as productivity tools that relate to the software. There are also links to Corel eStore, Corel's online shopping mall which offers award-winning software, access to clipart image collections, exclusive high-end premium photos and more; and to ClipartCity.com, the Corel site that gives users easy access to a huge variety of downloadable images that are free or available for purchase.
* Powerful Internet Meta Search Capability: Mamma.com provides the Web search functionality on CorelCity.com so that customers can quickly and easily find what they are looking for on the Web.
* Free e-mail: Chek.com provides customers with free email. Members of the Corel community can proudly display their new online identity by signing up for a free Web-based account with theirname@corelcity.com, designer.com, or officecommunity.com.
* Instant Messaging: For immediate, person-to-person, text-based conversations, Webb Interactive Services has developed JabberIM, a next generation, XML-based instant messaging application that provides Corel users with one of the most advanced and open instant messaging solutions on the market.
* Online Fax and Voice-mail: eFax.com (www.efax.com) provides a valuable unified messaging service that allows users to manage their voice and fax messages using the Internet.
Corel is planning to add other online services to CorelCity.com in the near future, such as Corel Printing Service, which will allow customers to personalize clothing, gifts and other items using their own photos and drawings.
