New Notebook: Toshiba's New Portege 7020CT and Tecra 8000 Series Deliver Industry's Fastest Portable Processors - Product Announcement

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Feb 1, 1999

Single Platform and Consistent Expansion Reduces Total Cost of Ownership The Tecra 8000's single-platform design with standardized and interchangeable components lowers customers' total cost of ownership through reduced support costs, convenient serviceability and longer product lifecycles. Toshiba added Intel's latest processor to the configurable Tecra 8000's existing platform without changing its software image, standard chipset or motherboard design.

As a result, the Tecra 8000 with the latest performance features can be quickly and seamlessly adopted by corporations without system requalification, loading new software images or additional cost to IT departments. In addition, SelectBay devices for previous Tecra generations, such as CD-ROM drives and second batteries, can be used in the Tecra 8000 series to further protect enterprise computing investments. Toshiba continues to provide the industry's most consistent docking stations and port replicators for long-term peripheral compatibility. The Tecra 8000 series is compatible with Toshiba's new Network Dock Port Replicator and existing Desk Station V Plus docking station and NoteDock II Enhanced Port Replicator, which have supported the Tecra series over the last three years. The Tecra 8000 notebooks are also compatible with the NoteDock III Enhanced Port Replicator, which supports the Satellite 4030CDT, 4080XCDT and the previous Satellite Pro series. Innovation for the Enterprise The Portege 7020CT and Tecra 8000 series provide a number of manageability features that offer IT managers better control over computing assets and total cost of ownership. The Portege and Tecra include advanced manageability features such as DMI 2.0 BIOS support, ACPI V1.0 compliance and LANDesk Client Manager 3.3, allowing for system diagnostics, remote and local system monitoring/configuring/updating, asset tagging and advanced power management. Adding another level of manageability is Toshiba's unique SecureSleep, allowing IS managers to perform remote asset management without compromising user security. To fit seamlessly into the enterprise, the Portege 7020CT comes standard with Windows 98 (dual-linked Windows 98/95 Configuration Builder CD) and Windows NT, while Tecra 8000 featured configurations come standard with Windows 95 and offer Windows 98 and Windows NT options. Optional Windows NT Workstation 4.0 support, either as a complete preinstall or through certified utilities and drivers, allows for seamless integration with a customer's Windows NT Workstation 4.0 licenses. Customers can download the appropriate utilities and drivers free-of-charge at http://www.pcsupport.toshiba.com Configuration Builder CD Offers Easy, Fast Software Options Toshiba makes selecting and reloading software simpler, less time-consuming and more cost-effective than traditional methods.
