NEC Computer Systems Division has announced that it will be integrating Intel's Pentium III processors into a range of its NEC Express5800 servers, offering customers a complete server solution for large and small workgroup computing needs.
The NEC Express5800 ES1400 server will be available with the 450MHz Pentium III processor, while the Express5800 LS2400 and Express5800 MC2400 servers will integrate the 450MHz and the 500MHz Pentium III processors. The Express5800 MC2400 and Express5800 LS2400 servers with the Pentium III processors are available now.

NEC Express5800 ES1400 Servers The NEC Express5800 ES1400 server, featuring a choice of Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium II, or Intel Pentium III processors, is designed to offer all of the features of a well-equipped workgroup server at near desktop prices. With small businesses and workgroups in mind, the ES1400 features a choice of Intel processors, quick throughput and performance, high reliability and availability, and easy set-up, manageability and expansion.
NEC Express5800 LS2400 Servers The NEC Express5800 LS2400 server featuring the 450 and 500MHz Intel Pentium III processors offers growing workgroups and small businesses an affordable, high-performance server solution. Optimized for workgroup collaboration, web applications and e-commerce, the LS2400 is a dual capable, high speed Pentium III processor platform that is easily expandable to accommodate future growth, offers high availability through an optional RAID controller, and is easy to set up and manage.
NEC Express5800 MC2400 Servers The NEC Express5800 MC2400 server is NEC CSD's high-speed, high-availability server for large workgroups and satellite offices. A dual processor server with a compact chassis design, the MC2400 is a solid investment for growing companies' future computing needs, and features a number of fault tolerant features for high reliability and future expansion.
The Intel Pentium III Processor The newly announced Intel Pentium III processor for workgroup level servers allows for a number of improvements over previous technology, including the following:
* Streaming SIMD extensions for improved effective memory latencies and cacheability control
* Enhanced ECC cache performance
* Thorough industry server validation to ensure reliability with a number of operating systems and applications
* Single and dual processing capability provides affordability, expandability and performance headroom
Pricing and Availability The NEC Express5800 LS2400 and Express5800 MC2400 Pentium III servers are available now from NEC directly or through selected resellers. The Express5800 ES1400 server is available now with a choice of Celeron or Pentium II processors. The Pentium III processor at 450MHz will be added to the Express5800 ES1400 server line during the second calendar quarter.
The LS2400 starts at approximately $2,207(1), which includes a single Pentium III 450MHz/512KB, 64MB RAM, a 4GB SCSI disk drive, integrated Ethernet, ESMPRO server management and a three year limited warranty(2).
The MC2400 starts at approximately $3,397(1), which includes a single Pentium III 500MHz/512KB, 64MB RAM, a 4GB Ultra 2 (LVD) SCSI hot swap disk drive, integrated Ethernet, ESMPRO server management, optional redundant power and cooling, and a three year limited warranty.
