Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, May 10, 1999
Dell Computer Corporation, building on its success in the mainstream corporate notebook market, Tuesday continued the expansion of its Latitude line with a new model designed for government and education customers.
The CPt introduces 14.1-inch displays and prices below $2,000 on the Latitude line.
"The Latitude CPt delivers the same benefits that have made Dell the No. 1 notebook supplier to medium and large businesses in the U.S. to price-sensitive government and education customers who are increasingly focused on total cost of ownership," said Tim Peters, general manager, Dell Latitude. "These benefits include commonality of docking and peripherals, industry-leading durability and comprehensive support."

Available now, the standard Latitude CPt configuration includes an Intel Mobile Celeron processor at 333MHz, 14.1-inch active matrix display, 32MB RAM, 4.3GB hard disk drive, 24X maximum CD-ROM drive, and Microsoft Windows 98 for $1,899. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Microsoft Windows 95 are also available. Even with a 14.1-inch display, the CPt weighs as little as 5.9 pounds. The CPt is DMI 2.0 compliant and comes with one-year, next-business-day on-site service.

> "The CPt is a business-focused implementation of Celeron based on relevant technology -- not on end-of-life components. The combination of large active matrix displays, powerful processors and long-lasting Lithium-Ion batteries, priced at $1,899, makes the CPt an outstanding value," said Peters. As an example of helping to lower the total cost of ownership, the CPt line maintains compatibility with previous Latitude "C" family peripheral devices and modules. These include docking hardware, DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, floppy disk, additional hard disk and LS-120 drives, battery, AC adapter and others. This consistency helps customers use their existing peripherals longer and provides flexibility to better manage their technology assets.
Dell, the world's leading direct computer systems company, designs its Latitude notebook line for customers who value a consistent, reliable product, and optimized performance in a connected environment. The Dell Latitude CP/CPi target large corporate and institutional customers who seek desktop performance with minimal TCO. The Latitude CPt serves education and institutional customers who demand a low entry price for relevant technology. The Latitude LT is an ultralight notebook for highly mobile executives.
