Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, May 17, 1999
ViewSonic Corp., a leading worldwide provider of advanced display technologies, introduced its new price and performance leader, the 19-inch (18.0-inch viewable) E790 monitor.
The E790 features VESA General Timing Format (GTF) compliance(a), enabling the display to predict image size and position, allowing "on-the-fly" switching of resolutions and refresh rates. Users benefit by reducing their setup time and maximizing the performance of the image display by properly sizing and centering the full image.

This monitor is designed for businesses, small offices, sophisticated home users and educational institutions that want an affordable upgrade from a 17-inch (16.0-inch viewable) monitor or to replace 20-inch (various viewables) displays because of concerns about cost or desktop space. Also available in a black case, the E790B can complement matching notebooks and workstations.
Providing up to 25 percent more viewable area than a traditional 17-inch (various viewables) monitor, this monitor allows for greater productivity and is a cost-effective solution with spreadsheet design, Web design, Internet scrolling and word processing with either PC or MAC. Vertical scan rates rank among the industry's best, allowing for high-end 3-D applications.
"Consumers benefit from the E790 for two major reasons -- the affordability and the added value of GTF, which reduces the common display problems that users encounter," said Lisa Headley Rist, product manager for ViewSonic. "By maximizing the performance of the image, GTF has proved to be a benefit to ViewSonic's display products and the industry as a whole."
Features of this ergonomic display include superfine 0.26mm dot pitch for a clear, crisp image. The flicker-free resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 88Hz has a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1280(b) and is TCO '95-certified. It also offers Plug & Play , OnView controls, ViewMatch color control and a SuperContrast Screen with Invar Shadow Mask for rich, sharp and consistent screen colors.
The E790 and the E790B are currently available at the MSRP of $509 and $525, respectively. They are value-priced as part of the E2 Series, designed for users who prefer an affordable, high- quality display and require ease of use and value at a competitive price.
Since 1991, ViewSonic Display Technology products have won more than 500 awards from independent publications, and are widely recognized as the best display solutions throughout the world. ViewSonic's leadership position is further supported by leading research firms such as DisplaySearch and Stanford Resources Inc.
In its latest Supply vs. Demand Study reflecting fourth-quarter 1998 results, DisplaySearch ranks ViewSonic as the No. 1 best-selling flat panel display in the United States. In addition, Stanford Resources' Monitrak fourth-quarter '98 report recognizes ViewSonic as the leading independent monitor brand in the United States.
