Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Nov 15, 1999
ORBOTECH LTD. Tuesday announced the introduction of its new Trion-2000 series of automated optical inspection ("AOI") systems for electronics assembly manufacturing.
Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Ronen Zexer, Vice President of Electronics Assembly at Orbotech Ltd., said, "The use of automated inspection systems in this market is becoming more and more prevalent and necessary as an enabling production tool. The Trion-2000 series is a customer-driven breakthrough designed to meet the diverse demands of today's modern, high speed SMT lines. It provides higher yields at lower production costs, answering manufacturers' need for real value in inspection. We believe that the Trion-2000 represents a new approach to inspection that will bring greater benefit and more significant results than the industry has realized to date from available solutions."

The Trion-2000 series delivers exceptional inspection flexibility for all inspection stages of the printed circuit board ("PCB") assembly line process - post paste, post component placement and post solder - and significantly improves the yields of even the most complex SMT, through-hole and mixed technologies. The Trion-2000 series is comprised of four distinct models: Trion-2210, Trion-2240, Trion-2310 and Trion-2340. With its modular design, the Trion-2000 has a scalable, upgrade path to meet customers' changing requirements and protect capital equipment investment for the future.
Trion-2000 systems incorporate innovative top view or 3-D image acquisition techniques, depending upon their inspection application, and unique statistical modeling-based image processing algorithms to ensure maximum fault coverage, without compromising throughput. Orbotech's unique AutoVerify re-tests suspected faults using high-resolution cameras, resulting in an exceptionally low false alarm rate.
Trion-2000 systems match the assembly line speed, safely eliminating any bottlenecks and ensuring smooth functioning of the production line. The setup process is straightforward for easy operation. Trion-2000 systems integrate seamlessly into any existing assembly manufacturing operation. SMEMA compatible, the systems allow board loading and unloading by a variety of commercial in-line handling systems. The systems' unique design ensures high reliability with extremely high uptime and minimum maintenance.
ORBOTECH LTD. is the world leader in the design, development, manufacture and marketing of AOI systems for use in the manufacture of PCBs and flat panel displays ("FPD"s) and is a leader in the design, development, manufacture and marketing of imaging solutions for PCB production and of AOI systems for use in the electronics assembly industry. In addition, the Company markets computer aided manufacturing ("CAM") solutions for PCB production and is continuing to develop its proprietary AOI technologies for use in other applications both within and outside the electronics industry.
