EMC Corporation, the world's leading provider of enterprise storage systems, software and services, Wednesday announced it has opened EMC Computer Systems Mexico S.A. de C.V., a direct sales subsidiary headquartered in Mexico City. The company has also announced the appointment of Octavio Marquez as General Manager for EMC Mexico.
EMC considers international markets a growth catalyst for the company over the next few years and is focused on expanding its existing international presence, including Latin America. EMC has developed a dedicated sales force and customer service and support staff throughout Latin America to support this growth, where during the third quarter of 1999, EMC revenues in the region grew by more than 100% compared with the third quarter of 1998.

EMC Mexico has already begun selling and supporting EMC's market-leading Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems, software and services directly into customer accounts in Mexico. Leading companies such as Pemex, Banamex, IUSACELL and Banorte are building and supporting their IT infrastructures on EMC Enterprise Storage.

Management Leadership for a Rapidly Growing Market Octavio Marquez will lead EMC's growth in Mexico. Marquez began his career in engineering and marketing at IBM and joined EMC from NCR de Mexico (formerly AT&T Global Information Solutions). At EMC Mexico, he will continue to focus on building and solidifying EMC's presence in the manufacturing, financial, oil, telecommunications, government and transportation industries, while working to expand the burgeoning Internet market.
Marquez will also focus on the continued development of local relationships under EMC's global software alliances with Oracle, SAP and Microsoft, as well as leading systems integrators, such as Andersen Consulting, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Gedas. EMC Mexico also will continue to work with local distributors, as well as EMC's global reseller partners. All products sold by EMC and its partners will be serviced and supported by EMC's world-class, 24x7 support operations.
