EMC Launches Subsidiary in Mexico to Support Continued Growth in Latin America - Company Operations

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Nov 15, 1999

EMC Corporation, the world's leading provider of enterprise storage systems, software and services, Wednesday announced it has opened EMC Computer Systems Mexico S.A. de C.V., a direct sales subsidiary headquartered in Mexico City. The company has also announced the appointment of Octavio Marquez as General Manager for EMC Mexico.

EMC considers international markets a growth catalyst for the company over the next few years and is focused on expanding its existing international presence, including Latin America. EMC has developed a dedicated sales force and customer service and support staff throughout Latin America to support this growth, where during the third quarter of 1999, EMC revenues in the region grew by more than 100% compared with the third quarter of 1998.

EMC Mexico has already begun selling and supporting EMC's market-leading Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems, software and services directly into customer accounts in Mexico. Leading companies such as Pemex, Banamex, IUSACELL and Banorte are building and supporting their IT infrastructures on EMC Enterprise Storage.

"With the expected IT growth in Mexico, companies are looking to build more reliable and scalable infrastructures," said Harry Dixon, Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Services. "EMC enables these companies to manage, protect and share the enormous amounts of information expected to be generated by the Internet, ERP and customer relationship management (CRM) applications, data warehousing and NT consolidation."

Management Leadership for a Rapidly Growing Market Octavio Marquez will lead EMC's growth in Mexico. Marquez began his career in engineering and marketing at IBM and joined EMC from NCR de Mexico (formerly AT&T Global Information Solutions). At EMC Mexico, he will continue to focus on building and solidifying EMC's presence in the manufacturing, financial, oil, telecommunications, government and transportation industries, while working to expand the burgeoning Internet market.

Marquez will also focus on the continued development of local relationships under EMC's global software alliances with Oracle, SAP and Microsoft, as well as leading systems integrators, such as Andersen Consulting, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Gedas. EMC Mexico also will continue to work with local distributors, as well as EMC's global reseller partners. All products sold by EMC and its partners will be serviced and supported by EMC's world-class, 24x7 support operations.

EMC Corporation, based in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, is the world's technology and market leader in the rapidly growing market for intelligent enterprise storage systems, networks, software, and services. The company's products store, retrieve, manage, protect and share information from all major computing environments, including UNIX, Windows NT and mainframe platforms.
