VSI Ships First Release of Breeze Commerce Studio; Advanced XML Development Tool Now Available as Free Download - V-Systems Breeze Commerce Studio XML-based application development software - Product Announcement

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Oct 11, 1999

VSI (V-Systems Inc.), a company dedicated to "Bridging the Gap between Business and E-Business," Tuesday announced the availability of Breeze Commerce Studio, a powerful new developer's toolkit for building XML-based business solutions.

Breeze Commerce Studio provides an advanced visual environment, designed for XML and Java developers, that speeds the integration of multiple data sources by utilizing a powerful XML schema editor, schema importer and Java code generation tools. This empowers developers to optimize overall development productivity and build XML-based business solutions quickly and easily.

"The power of Breeze Commerce Studio lies in its advanced editing and code generation tools. These tools enable developers to set constraints and other variables in very large DTD's that would otherwise require long hours of manual coding," said Mitch Baxter, president of VSI. "Breeze virtually eliminates the tedious, error-prone coding that is required when using DOM (Document Object Model) to access XML documents."

Breeze Commerce Studio enables developers to create, import and modify XML schema (DTD's). Additionally, Breeze can import schema from JDBC and ODBC connectable databases and generate Java code in the form of objects that can be integrated into applications. The objects will validate XML documents based on the parameters and constraints set in the schema.

Breeze also includes a toolkit which can route XML data via HTTP, TCP, e-mail, file and XML-enabled fax servers.

Increases Developer Productivity Breeze features an intuitive graphical interface designed to maximize developer productivity. Breeze Wizards quickly step the developer through the process of importing DTD's and database schema. Once a DTD or database schema has been imported, additional constraints and data types can be assigned to the elements of that schema. The Breeze Export Wizard then generates Java code providing access to XML documents and databases that adhere to the specified schema.

The code generated by Breeze presents an object view of XML documents and databases to the developer. This approach allows the developer to treat XML documents and databases like any other object in the application. It also simplifies accessing XML from Java over other approaches such as DOM, which requires an in-depth knowledge of both a Java API and the underlying XML and SAX (Simple API for XML).

Breeze organizes the work by project, allowing the developer to create, import and combine schema, and generate code under a single project.

Free Download Now Available Breeze Commerce Studio is now available as a free download from the VSI Web site at www.vsi.com/breeze. The full version is not time-constrained and is available for non-commercial use. The Java objects created by Breeze can be freely distributed under the terms of the product license.

Future Breeze enhancements will include a visual forms designer that maps XML documents to form templates, which can be published as PDF, Postscript and PCL documents.

VSI is a leading developer of broad e-commerce and integrated network fax solutions, including the new Breeze Commerce Studio. The company's flagship fax software line, VSI-FAX, is backed by more than 30,000 installations worldwide. VSI also creates and markets other whole product fax solutions including VSI-FAX for Notes and VSI-FAX for Baan.
