Artisoft Announces Visual Fax 3.0; New Version Offers Unparalleled Flexibility in Fax System Design - Product Announcement

Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Sept 13, 1999

Artisoft, Inc. Tuesday announced the release of Visual Fax 3.0, a member of the award-winning, Visual Voice product family. Visual Fax, the industry's most flexible fax software development toolkit, empowers programmers to build custom integrated PC-based fax applications quickly and easily. Built upon the same ActiveX architecture as Artisoft's award- winning Visual Voice Pro, Visual Fax 3.0 offers greater scalability and faster performance over previous versions of the product. Visual Fax provides software developers multi-line faxing facilities, offering complete control over sending and receiving faxes.

Central to Visual Fax 3.0 are design enhancements geared toward building larger, faster and more robust fax applications, including: fax servers, interactive fax-on-demand, fax mail and unified messaging systems. Visual Fax 3.0 also leverages the latest component technology to ensure that fax applications utilize fewer system resources while managing more fax traffic. Based upon Dialogic's native Windows NT driver architecture (DNA) and Microsoft's ActiveX Template Library (ATL), Artisoft improved the performance and scalability of Visual Fax 3.0 by more than 50% over previous versions.

Visual Fax 3.0 also includes a new Jobs component ideal for monitoring the status of fax activity in multiple queues. In addition, a new configuration utility makes set up much easier by providing an easy-to-use graphical interface for changing complex registry settings.

"Visual Fax 3.0 enhances the Visual Voice product family by offering developers a fax toolkit with superior flexibility and scalability," said Greg Gies, Visual Voice product manager. "Hailed as the industry's most flexible and powerful CT toolkit, Visual Voice and Visual Fax benefit both telephony developers as well as our TeleVantage VARs, enabling them to quickly and easily customize telephone systems to meet specific business needs."

Visual Fax, the most flexible fax development toolkit, offers developers the largest choice of development environments and provides full support for the Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 development system, including Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual FoxPro, and Visual J++. The release also supports the other ActiveX compatible development environments including Inprise Delphi and Sybase Powerbuilder, to give programmers even greater flexibility.

Visual Fax 3.0 will be generally available within 30 days. Advance orders can be taken immediately by contacting Artisoft Telephony Sales at 800-914-9985, 617-354-0600, or telephonysales@artisoft.com. Pricing begins at $495.

A member of the award winning Visual Voice product family, Visual Fax is a collection of flexible ActiveX programming tools that plug into popular Windows programming languages such as Visual Basic. Visual Fax 3.0 will enable ISVs, software consultants and systems integrators to get product to market faster. Its flexible architecture also empowers corporate IS departments to integrate fax into existing systems and networks helping businesses achieve a higher degree of operational efficiency. Visual Fax applications run on Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000.

Visual Voice is a collection of ActiveX components and graphical utilities that allow developers to quickly build sophisticated Windows-based telephony applications. Harnessing the power of Visual Voice, developers can build voice mail, IVR, banking, employee benefits, and other telephone inquiry applications that allow access to databases from a touch-tone phone. Visual Voice applications can be extended to include text-to-speech, voice recognition, multi-party conferencing, and multi-line faxing.

Artisoft leads the industry in providing easy-to-use, affordable computer telephony and communications software products. Artisoft's award winning computer telephony solutions, TeleVantage and Visual Voice have been recognized as "Product of the Year," "Best of Show," and "Editor's Choice" by PC Magazine, Computer Telephony Magazine, and CTI Magazine, among others.
