Edge: Work-Group Computing Report, Sept 13, 1999

Trend Micro, Inc., a leader in centrally managed virus protection, announced Tuesday that Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT) has purchased and implemented its award-winning virus protection and filtering software, InterScan VirusWall to help protect its Internet gateway.

Microsoft selected Trend Micro's InterScan VirusWall after evaluation and testing. Microsoft's evaluation team cited InterScan VirusWall's, detection rates, central management and invisibility to end users as key reasons for the selection of Trend's InterScan VirusWall.

"We pride ourselves in offering rock solid antivirus and malicious code protection," said Eva Chen, chief technology officer and executive vice president of Trend Micro.

"Our solutions are built from the ground up to handle the intense demands of major corporations. Microsoft's selection of InterScan VirusWall -- is a tremendous endorsement of our technology. Companies that need global virus protection, like Microsoft, are increasingly turning to Trend Micro for technology and service they know they can count on to meet their needs."

InterScan VirusWall scans Internet e-mail (SMTP) as well as HTTP and FTP traffic for viruses and malicious code. Through its eManager functions, InterScan VirusWall also filters content and monitors bandwidth usage, while providing central management of multiple servers from a single point.

InterScan VirusWall scans both incoming and outgoing file attachments. Viruses and malicious code are stopped at the server, before incoming infected files have a chance to reach the desktop. Likewise, InterScan VirusWall also stops infected e-mail attachments from leaving the network.

InterScan VirusWall has won numerous awards, including 1997 PC Magazine's Editor's Choice for Internet Email Gateway Antivirus, the UNIX/Windows NT Technology Award (UNIX Expo) given by Windows NT Magazine, the SMAU Industrial Design Award, and most recently, Network Computing's Editor's Choice Award.

InterScan VirusWall was proven to have the best performance of any Internet antivirus product in its class in a study by National Software Testing Laboratory.

InterScan VirusWall is available for Windows NT (Intel and Digital Alpha), Solaris, and HP-UX and supports Check Point Software Technologies' CVP standard (on Solaris).
